Children and Caregivers

Special Needs & Early Intervention

Every child develops differently. Some babies walk early. Some toddlers speak later. How do you know when a child needs extra help? And what can you do?

  • Help Me Grow Screenings

Help Me Grow South Carolina guides caregivers through the complicated network of services and supports that are available to children birth-5. Our Care Coordinators are child development specialists who work with each family to identify their specific needs and plug them into the available services in their community. This service is available to all families at no cost and regardless of insurance coverage or type.

  • ParentChild+ Screenings

We work with families, caregivers, and communities through intensive home visiting to support not only early literacy and school readiness, but also early opportunities for children and families. We build deep trust relationships with families and as a result are able to support them in accessing other developmentally appropriate programming for their children and connect them to critical community resources. We are inspired by the thought that the more we work together now to level the playing field, the closer we get to an equitable future for all children.

  • SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs - Early Intervention

Early Intervention is a family-focused, in-home service for children from birth to age 6 years of age. An Early Interventionist helps families understand their child's development and gives specific training to assist the family in addressing these areas of delay.

  • SC Department of Education - Special Education Services

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B federal regulations, school districts (local education agencies- LEAs) are required to ensure that a free appropriate public education (FAPE) is available to all eligible children with disabilities beginning at the age of three. Children with disabilities ages 3-21 may be served under the Part B provision of the IDEA through school districts and/or state operated programs within the state. Types of special education and related services provided are dependent upon each child's individual needs.

  • SC Department of Health and Human Services - Babynet

BabyNet is South Carolina's interagency early intervention system for infants and toddlers under three years of age with developmental delays, or who have conditions associated with developmental delays. BabyNet matches the special needs of infants and toddlers who have developmental delays with the professional resources available within the community.
